• Who can answer my questions?

    DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS!
    There is one thing you should know about people in St. Louis. They love to help other people and answer their questions. Do not worry that you are bothering people. If they cannot answer your question, they will tell you whom to ask. The following are school personnel who will help you.
    • The School Nurse
      • The school nurse is at school all day. She checks immunization records. She takes care of children who become ill in school or have injured themselves. She will notify you to tell you if it necessary for your child to go home. If a child vomits or has a temperature of over 100º F (~37.7º C), the child must go home and stay home for at least 24 hours. It is very important that you have an emergency contact listed on your child’s emergency form. Children may visit the nurse for an ice pack, a temperature check, a bandage or clean clothes after a bathroom “accident” or a fall in the mud on the playground.
      • If your child needs to take medication, contact the school nurse.  Children are not allowed to take medication at school without the nurse’s permission and participation.
    • The School Office
      • When you call the school, a secretary will answer the phone. The school secretary can answer questions about school procedures, schedules and registration. 
      • How do I let the school know if my child will be absent?
        • Please let the secretary know if your child is not coming to school because of illness, family trip, doctor appointment or religious holiday. The secretary will inform the teacher.
    • The Counselor
      • The school counselor works with every elementary school class on “life skills” – how to be a good student, a good friend, and a good member of the community. He or she works with small groups of children and individuals.
      • The counselor has both experience and training in helping a child who needs special help in his academic or social life and develops helpful ideas for the child’s teachers and parents. All children and families can talk to the school counselor.
    • The Principal
      • The principal is the director of the school who manages the daily schedule, and administers the building, students, and staff.
    • The Instructional Coordinator/Assistant Principal
      • The instructional coordinator at the elementary schools and assistant principals at the middle school and high school assist the principal in school administration and provide supports for students, parents, and staff. 
    • Classroom Teachers
      • Your child’s teacher is interested in your questions and comments about your child’s experiences and activities. If you would like to schedule a special time to talk with the teacher, you may send a note, email or leave a message on the teacher’s voice mail.
    • EL Instructional Specialist
      • The English Language (EL) instructional specialist is available to answer questions and to help you as well as your child. He/she can also provide assistance if you need help with English at your child's school.
