• About Mrs. McGaughey ...

    My Background:
I grew up in St. Louis with the best family in the world, but in 2001, I ventured out to Kansas City to attend Rockhurst University.  It was there that I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in elementary education.  This degree came with Missouri certification to teach elementary grades first through sixth. Since then, I have taught third grade for one year, fourth grade for four years, and fifth grade for four years. While teaching, I began working towards earning a Master in the Art of Teaching Degree from Webster University and graduated with that degree in May 2009.  This past summer, I added certification as a Library Media Specialist.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy family time with my husband, Peter, and our two girls, Mary Jane and Lucy. We love to play outside and read together!

    My Beliefs:
    - I have a passion for excellence, in my students and especially within myself as their teacher.
    - Teaching children is a wonderful privilege and an incredible responsibility.
    - Every child can learn. It is my job to figure out how each individual student learns best and teach them in that way.
    - I strive to catch the attention of every learner and give them every possible opportunity to grow intellectually and emotionally.
    - I love creating learning experiences that inspire curiosity within every type of learner.
    - I make a point to try to connect to each student in a personal way. I think that is the best motivational tool there is!

    Parent-Teacher Partnership:
We are your child’s biggest supporters and assets this year so it is imperative that we work together to ensure your child is receiving the best education possible.  I am always available to discuss your student’s progress with you.  You may e-mail or call me if you ever have any questions.
