Message to junior families January, 2025:
Hello! We are Jacelyn Cole and Katy Jane Johnson and we will be a part of your student’s senior team. This semester, we will work to transition your student to their final year of high school by working with them on course registration as well as their post-high school planning. Senior year, we consider ourselves a ‘one stop shop’ and are available for any of your student’s needs (i.e. academic support, social emotional support and secondary planning).
I want to express our gratitude for attending our "College Kick Off" meeting on Wednesday, January 15th. The link to the sides presented are posted below. No matter what your student's plans are once they graduate from CHS, we are here to provide support as they transition from high school to beyond. We look forward to getting to know you and your student!
Next steps:
Your FIRST step is to schedule a family "post-high school” planning meeting with me this semester. These meetings are usually scheduled in person during the school day and if a student must miss a class to attend, it will be an “excused” absence that will not count against their attendance totals. If you prefer a zoom meeting, please send me an email and I will send a link.
Please refer to the email sent on January 21st or email the CHS Counseling office to receive the booking calendar link.
What to expect during our initial meeting:
1. A probing conversation
2. Demonstration on the use of MaiaLearning
3. Creating a list of Colleges in MaiaLearning based on your student’s interest, goals and academic profile. We will look at factors that include likely admission and affordability.
4. Explanation of the Student Questionnaire/Parent Questionnaire
5. Goal setting and a “To-Do” List
6. A list of helpful resources
7. Your questions answered
There are 192 students in the class of 2026. We have worked to create a variety of appointment slots during the semester to meet your needs. If you need help finding an alternate time, please email LaToya Barry at latoyabarry@claytonschools.net
. We look forward to our meeting!
