•    In this class, students will gain experience reading challenging texts, articulating their original ideas about them, and writing in a variety of formats.  Among the texts we'll explore this year are The Odyssey by Homer, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Golding's The Lord of the Flies, Martel's Life of Pi, as well as short stories, poetry, and nonfiction pieces.

Students should be prepared to participate each day.

As a conferenced English class, this course features nine essay conferences this year.  In addition, students will be expected to read 350 pages each quarter and have conferences with me about this independent reading.
