    Teaching is both a science and an art.  Communication is a required part of teaching and learning.  I believe in strong and appropriate communication in speaking, in writing, with peers, with teachers, and in presenting to a group. 

    There are no shortcuts to learning deeply.  You must work hard, push through the difficulty, ask questions, seek help, and work both independently and with others.

    To lay the strongest foundation in math, you must build conceptual understanding, computational fluency, and the capacity to problem solve.

    Problem solving is what you do when you don't know the answer.

    Grades are important, but they are not everything.

    I love the contest winners, I love the strugglers, and I love all the ones in-between. I love that I get to teach all of them, not some of them. 

    I love kids and I love teaching math!
