    Nisha Patel, EdD

Dr. Nisha Patel became superintendent of the School District of Clayton in 2021, bringing with her over two decades of experience in education.

Her career began in 1999 as a science teacher in the Kansas City area. After relocating to St. Louis, she joined the Rockwood School District, teaching high school science before transitioning into leadership roles as an assistant principal, associate principal and building principal. In 2014, she was recognized as the Exemplary New Principal of the Year by the St. Louis Association of Secondary School Principals. She later served the Fox C-6 School District as the assistant superintendent of secondary schools before becoming the district’s superintendent in 2019. These experiences shaped her perspective and approach as a leader.

Her passion for education was sparked in her childhood in Kenya. At nine years old, her family made the life-changing decision to move to the United States, seeking greater educational opportunities. This experience solidified her belief that a quality education is key to opening doors and creating a brighter future.

Dr. Patel holds a bachelor's degree in cellular biology and a master's degree in science education from the University of Kansas. She also earned a master's degree in administration from Missouri Baptist University and a doctoral degree in administrative leadership from Maryville University, where her capstone project focused on the impact of Freshman Seminar on high school students' overall experience.

Dr. Patel's family keeps her grounded in the values of hard work, humility, determination and excellence. She believes that meaningful relationships built on respect and trust are key to success and takes pride in helping those around her become their best selves.
