Mr. Mark Sophir, Head Coach

Coach Sophir has been a competitive tennis player for over 50 years and in January 2025 was part of a team that finished 3rd in the nation in his age group. He served as assistant coach last year to the varsity team that won the state championship as well as the individual doubles state championship and singles runner-up. He has helped coach young people in sports throughout his life, including coaching baseball, basketball as well as tennis (his daughter was a state champion in tennis at Ladue.) He has a passion for teaching and strives to help each student strengthen their strategic and mental approach to the game and to be the best player they can be. Coach Sophir has a business and law degree from the University of Texas in Austin, has practiced as a lawyer at Armstrong Teasdale for over 35 years, and has served as an adjunct professor at Washington University, teaching sports law for nearly a decade.

Ms. Beatriz Juan, Assistant Coach

Coach Bea has been a competitive player since she can remember, played tournaments all her youth and college tennis. Native from Spain, she ranked 46th of the nation, became a professional tennis player where she played WTA tournaments before coming to the United States to play at Drury University where she studied Architecture. At college, she played #1 singles and #1 doubles while she was NCAA eligible. She is currently the Head Coach for Cor Jesu Academy in the fall season and she has coached their team for four years.  She loves sharing her passion for tennis to the players and the respect for the sport.
