    • The Genius of Play: Learning Through PLAY for Early Childhood and Early Elementary Families
      Presenter: Tyler Kearns, National Afterschool Association Play Ambassador and Clayton Kid Zone Program Coordinator

      Parents joined Genius of Play Ambassador Tyler Kearns for an interactive journey on the Importance of Play. They learned how "play" builds 21st century learning skills such as confidence, creativity, critical thinking and collaboration.

    • The Yes Brain: Presentation
      Presenter: Jani Holyan, District Parenting Education Coordinator

      Every parent wants to raise a strong-minded, resilient, caring child. The Yes Brain: How to Cultivate Courage, Curiosity and Resilience In Your Child, by Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson, offers clears strategies for fostering balance, empathy and self-regulation in our children to help them manage the bumps and tumbles of life and nurture in them the resources that will allow them to enjoy happy, healthy grown-up lives.

    • Angst Documentary Screening
      Sponsored by the All In Clayton Coalition

      Angst explores anxiety, its causes, effects and what we can do about it. The filmmakers’ goal is to have a global conversation and raise awareness around anxiety. Angst features candid interviews with kids and young adults, including Olympian Michael Phelps, who suffer, or have suffered, from anxiety and what they’ve learned about it. The film includes discussions with mental health experts about the causes of anxiety and its sociological effects, as well as help, resources and tools.

    • The Self-Driven Child: Presentation
      Presenter: Jani Holyan, District Parenting Education Coordinator

      The Self-Driven Child: The Science & Sense of Giving Your Kids More Control Over Their Lives, by William Stixrud and Ned Johnson, helps us examine the effects of the stresses of competitive schooling that results in many families and students feeling plagued with anxiety and exhaustion. Sometimes the most helpful thing we can do as parents is to parent a little less so we leave room for our child to take responsibility, learn to think critically and thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Based on the latest brain science, this book offers parents practical advice on how to pull back, when to engage and when to let go.

      Presenter: Bonnie Harris, M.S.Ed., author and parenting specialist

      Nobody can make us see RED faster than our kids! You're left wondering... where is the parent I thought I'd be? Parents joined acclaimed author, international speaker and parenting specialist Bonnie Harris, M.S.Ed., for an evening exploring how to:
      • Get our children to listen... what actually works?
      • Understand our own reactions and gain control o f them.
      • Interpret and reframe our child's behavior so we don't stay stuck in power struggles
      • Set appropriate expectations.
      • Exchange punishment and blame for problem solving.

    • Hidden in Plain View: An Interactive Exhibit to Help Parents Spot Signs of Risky Behavior
      Sponsored by the All In Clayton Coalition.

      This interactive display of a teenager’s bedroom contained over 70 items that could signal a teen is involved in risky activities. Parents learned how to spot these warning signs and get tips for talking with their kids about the dangers of alcohol and drug use.
