Traditions at Clayton High School

P.T.O. Open House ... Clayton High School parents are invited to spend an evening visiting their students" classes during the first quarter of each year.
Homecoming ... Held each fall to honor the fall sports teams, Homecoming occurs the week of the last or next-to-last home football game. Activities include a pep assembly, several sports events, and the Homecoming Dance.
Peppers ... CHS Club sponsors this girl-asks-boy dance in February.
Junior-Senior Prom ... The Junior Class hosts the Senior Class at this May dance.
Stage Productions ... The Fall Play and Spring Play present traditional comedy and drama starring CHS students. CHS students write, produce, and direct the Student- Run-Musical in December. In February, the Broadway Show brings musical theater to the Clayton stage.
Concerts ... The band, chorus, orchestra and specialized musical groups present a variety of shows throughout the year, ranging from formal concerts to Jazz Under The Stars.
Fine Arts Fair ... Each April, CHS students invite students from the Special School District to be their guests for a day of fun and friendship.
Sixth Grade Camp ... Each fall, CHS students serve as counselors for sixth-graders at a week-long fall camp experience.
AP Exams ... Students enrolled in Advanced Placement classes take examinations each spring to earn college credit in their subjects.
Semester Exams ... Classes at Clayton High School end each semester with 1-1/2 hour final examinations. A special schedule, grouping exams by subject area, is distributed before each exam week.
Awards Assemblies ... Freshmen are honored for their achievements in academics, activities, and athletics at a spring assembly sponsored by the Teacher-Advisor Program. The Annual All-School Awards Assembly in late May each year recognizes student excellence in academic areas, athletics, leadership, and community service. Seasonal awards assemblies are held for all sports.

Commencement ... Clayton High School faculty, students, friends, and families celebrate the special successes of each graduating class. The ceremony includes speakers from the graduating class, presentation of diplomas, recognition of students graduating with Academic Honors and High Academic Honors, and acknowledgement of students meeting requirements for the CHS Alumni Association Community Service Award.
