The Fine Arts Fair for Special School District students will be held Tuesday, April 7th! The plans for this event start early in the school year and never end. We are certain there will be a myriad of developments for which we have not planned adequately due to the complexity of the event. Thus, the key words for the days leading up to the Arts Fair are “flexibility and cooperation”!
There is a fine line between too little and too much information. Here are some questions and answers we have encountered in the past:
What exactly is the Fine Arts Fair? The Fine Arts Fair is a great tradition in which CHS students invite about 300 SSD students from Litzsinger and Neuwoehner Schools to be their guests for a day of fun and friendship. Students will participate in various arts and crafts activities led by CHS clubs. Also, a variety of entertainers and attractions for everyone to enjoy typically includes the CHS jazz band, the CHS choir, the Wydown singers, a DJ, a petting zoo, clowns, caricaturists, balloon artists, face painters and a magician. This is a fun-filled day in which 75% of CHS students participate. This year’s theme is TBA.
Will classes be in session during any part of the day on Tuesday, April 7th? No.
Are students who have not volunteered to be involved required to be at school? No, they are not.
May students who do not participate in the Arts Fair participate in extracurricular activities after school? Yes, since attendance is optional, no one will be designated as unexcused.
Will the VTS busses run on that day? Yes, regular schedule.
Will special transportation be provided for VTS students who choose not to be involved in the Arts Fair, but who wish to participate in extracurricular activities? No.
Are faculty and staff who are not involved in the Arts Fair expected to be at school during normal working hours? Yes, they are.
Are there still opportunities for students and staff to become involved? Yes, there are. Please let one of us know, as many already have.
Will lunch be served for faculty and staff in the cafeteria? Yes, but the selection will be limited since the cafeteria will not be serving the student body. Our guests from Special District will bring their own lunches. The C-club will be SELLING barbecue lunches to our volunteers and any others (faculty and staff) for a minimal charge; all proceeds will help fund the Arts Fair.
Now, for some additional reminders: Friday, April 3rd is set aside for training sessions for buddies (student volunteers who will individually host our special guests). During 2nd or 3rd periods, student buddies will need to be excused from one class, according to the school their respective special guests attend. Students who will be working as leaders of a club sponsoring a room will also need to be trained during 7th hour. These sessions will enable them to work effectively with our special guests in leading various activities. Student Government and steering committee members should be excused periods1 through 8 so that they are able to serve as facilitators throughout the day for the training sessions.
We ask that your spirit of cooperation and flexibility continue to help us make this a wonderful day for all involved as so many of you have in the past.
